During the Kedarnath flash floods in 2013, the Indian Air Force commenced operation Raahat. During the course of 15 days, the IAF carried out 2,140 missions and evacuated over 20,000 civilians.
For 36 straight hours, braving the -10◦ weather, 18 grenadiers, 2 Naga and 8 Sikh Regiments fought to reclaim Tiger Hill. The courageous soldiers climbed a 1,000 foot vertical cliff while a hail of bullets and rocket fire rained down upon them. Neutralizing the enemy, they reclaimed Tiger Hill. This episode has been etched in our memories and will remain with us forever.
